Account & Sign-Up
Creating an account
Tap Sign Up on the top-right of any page. You can register with your email and a password, or sign in instantly with Google. Either way you'll get a confirmation email and be taken straight to your dashboard.
Logging in
Go to Log In and enter your email and password, or tap Continue with Google. Your session stays active until you sign out.
Resetting your password
On the login page, tap Forgot password? and enter your email. You'll receive a link that's valid for a limited time. Tap it, choose a new password, and you're all set.
Deleting your account
Open Preferences from your dashboard and scroll to the bottom. Tap Delete Account, choose a reason, and confirm. Your data will be permanently removed. If you have an active subscription it will be cancelled automatically.
Family Link & Kid Login
What is the family link?
When you sign up, SpellCrush creates a unique, kid-friendly URL for your family β something like
spellcrush.fun/family/happy-turtle-rainbow. Bookmark this link on your children's devices so they can jump straight into practice without needing your email.Finding your family link
Your family link is shown on your Dashboard at the top. Tap the copy button to grab it, then paste it into your child's browser bookmarks.
How kids log in
When your child opens the family link, they'll see all the children in your family. They tap their name and enter their 4-digit PIN. That's it β no email, no passwords.
Setting or changing a PIN
On your dashboard, find your child's card and tap Manage PIN. Enter a new 4-digit number. The PIN is securely encrypted β even you can't see it once it's saved.
Managing Children
Adding a child
From your dashboard, tap Add Child. Enter their first name, age, and optionally their grade and preferred language. You'll then be prompted to set their PIN.
Editing a profile
Tap the edit icon on any child's card to change their name, age, grade, language, daily goal, reward mode, or assigned word list.
Hide Age & Grade
If your child is sensitive about their level, toggle Hide Age & Grade in their profile. This removes the age and grade labels from the child-facing screens while still using them internally for word selection.
Activating and deactivating
You can deactivate a child to hide them from the family login screen without deleting their data. Tap the toggle on their card. Reactivate any time to bring them back with all progress intact.
Free vs Premium limits
The free plan supports 1 child. Upgrade to Premium for unlimited children under one account.
Parent Dashboard
Dashboard overview
Your dashboard shows a card for each child with their current level, XP, streak, daily goal progress, and reward balance. From here you can jump to practice, stats, assessments, or settings for any child.
Stats & charts
Tap View Stats on a child's card to see detailed charts: accuracy over time, difficulty distribution of attempted words, category breakdown, and a practice frequency heatmap.
Onboarding steps
First-time parents see a guided onboarding flow: create your account, add your first child, set their PIN, and start a practice session. Once completed, the onboarding banner disappears.
Practice Sessions
How a session works
Your child hears a word spoken aloud, then types their best spelling. If correct, they earn XP and see a confetti celebration. If wrong, the correct spelling is revealed and they can retry or continue to the next word.
Hearing the word again
The speaker button at the top replays the word at any time. Your child can listen as many times as they need before submitting their answer.
Retry vs Continue
After a wrong answer, Retry lets your child try the same word again for extra practice. Continue moves on to the next word. Both options still count toward their stats.
Exiting mid-session
Tapping the back arrow during a session shows a confirmation dialog. All progress up to that point is already saved β nothing is lost.
Virtual keyboard
On tablets and phones, an on-screen QWERTY keyboard appears so your child can type without switching to the system keyboard. It's sized for small fingers and stays visible throughout the session.
Mistake Highlighting
How wrong letters are shown
After three failed attempts, SpellCrush reveals the correct spelling with color-coded highlighting. Red pulsing letters mark the exact characters your child got wrong. Yellow highlights vowels, and a lighter shade highlights consonants β so they can see the word's structure at a glance.
Smart alignment
SpellCrush uses a smart comparison algorithm so that a single missing or extra letter doesn't flag the entire rest of the word as wrong. For example, if the correct word is TERRITORY and your child types TERITORY, only the missing R is highlighted β not every letter after it.
Previous attempts
All three wrong attempts are shown above the correct spelling in muted gray, each with their own individual highlighting, so your child can see exactly where each attempt went off track.
Adaptive Difficulty
Age-based difficulty ranges
SpellCrush automatically picks words in a difficulty range based on your child's age. There's nothing to configure β it just works.
Ages 4β6: Difficulty 1β3
Ages 7β8: Difficulty 1β5
Ages 9β10: Difficulty 3β7
Ages 11β12: Difficulty 5β9
Ages 13+: Difficulty 7β10
Ages 4β6: Difficulty 1β3
Ages 7β8: Difficulty 1β5
Ages 9β10: Difficulty 3β7
Ages 11β12: Difficulty 5β9
Ages 13+: Difficulty 7β10
How words are selected
The system prioritises words your child has attempted many times but gotten wrong frequently. Words they haven't seen yet are mixed in alongside the tricky ones. Recently mastered words are removed from the rotation.
When is a word “mastered”?
A word is marked as mastered once your child has spelled it correctly about 5 times out of 7 or more attempts. Mastered words leave normal practice, but if SpellCrush detects regression they'll reappear for a refresher.
XP & Levels
Earning XP

Correct answer: +10 XP

XP never resets
Your child's XP and level are permanent. Even if you reset their reward balance, their XP and level stay exactly where they are.
Streaks & Daily Goal
How streaks work
Your child's streak counts how many days in a row they've practiced. If they skip a day the streak resets to zero, but their longest streak is stored permanently as a personal best.
Daily word goal
Each child has a daily word goal (default: 10 words). You can change this in their profile. When they reach the goal, they get a +50 XP bonus and a celebration popup. Progress resets at midnight.
Achievements
5 categories, 15 badges
Achievements unlock automatically as your child hits milestones:
Words: 1 / 10 / 50 / 100 / 500 correct words
Streaks: 3 / 7 / 30 consecutive practice days
XP: 500 / 2,000 / 5,000 XP earned

Special: Speed Demon, Perfect Day, Variety Master
Where to see them
Achievements appear as badges on your child's dashboard card and in the gamification popup whenever a new one is unlocked.
Rewards
Money mode vs Points mode
Each child can earn rewards in one of two modes. Money mode (default) shows virtual cents displayed as dollars. Points mode shows star points (10 points = 1 cent equivalent). Switch modes in the child's profile.
Earning rewards
Your child earns a small reward with every correct answer during practice. Rewards accumulate in their balance automatically.
Balance vs lifetime total
The current balance is what your child can spend. The lifetime total tracks everything they've ever earned. If you reset the balance, the lifetime total is preserved.
Resetting the balance
As a parent, you can reset a child's reward balance to zero at any time β for example, after fulfilling a real-world reward. This doesn't affect their XP, level, or lifetime total.
Reward Store
Creating store items
Go to Reward Store from your dashboard. Tap Add Reward and enter a name, emoji, description, and cost (in dollars or points depending on the child's mode). You can reorder items by drag-and-drop.
Enabling and disabling items
Toggle an item off to hide it from your children without deleting it. Toggle it back on whenever you're ready to offer it again.
How kids browse and redeem
Your child sees the store from their dashboard. Items they can afford show a Redeem button. One tap deducts the cost from their balance and records the redemption β then it's up to you to fulfil the reward in real life!
Redemption history
Every redemption is logged with the date, item name, and amount. You can review this history on the child's profile.
AI Hints
PremiumWhat AI hints look like
During practice, Premium children can tap the Hint button to get a creative, age-appropriate clue generated by AI. For example, for the word DOG the hint might be: “Dash Over the Grass!”
Letter highlighting in hints
The key letters of the target word are highlighted in bold yellow within the hint text, making it easy for your child to spot the spelling pattern even if they don't read the full sentence.
AI Visual Aids
PremiumWhat image aids are
For every practice word, SpellCrush can generate a colourful image that illustrates the word's meaning. This visual memory aid helps children β especially visual learners β associate the spelling with a concrete picture.
Where they appear
The image shows up in the Visual Aid panel during practice, right alongside the hint and answer input. Your child can glance at it while they're thinking about the spelling.
Custom Word Lists
PremiumCreating a list from scratch
Go to Word Lists from your dashboard and tap Create New List. Give it a name, then add words one by one. SpellCrush will automatically generate definitions for each word using AI.
Importing from CSV or Excel
Have a list ready? Tap Import and upload a CSV or Excel file. The first column should be words; an optional second column can contain definitions. SpellCrush fills in any missing definitions automatically.
Using the template gallery
Don't want to start from scratch? Browse the Template Gallery for ready-made lists across 9 categories: phonics patterns, tricky spelling rules, academic subjects, themes, morphology, reading & writing, everyday life, geography, and seasonal topics.
Assigning a list to a child
Edit a child's profile and pick a word list from the dropdown. When a list is assigned, practice sessions pull exclusively from that list instead of the standard word database. Remove the assignment to go back to the default words.
Learning Support Mode
PremiumWhat is Learning Support?
Learning Support is an optional mode designed to help children who benefit from fewer on-screen distractions and more frequent check-ins. It activates two features inside practice sessions without affecting XP, rewards, streaks, or levels.
Enabling it
Edit your child's profile and toggle Learning Support (below the Hide Age & Grade option). A teal π― badge will appear on their card to confirm it's active.
Focus Mode
A crosshair button appears in the practice toolbar. When enabled, the moment your child starts typing, everything except the word, input field, and visual aid fades away β removing distractions. As soon as they stop typing or feedback is shown, the full interface immediately reappears. Your child can toggle Focus Mode on or off at any time during the session.
Difficulty Check-ins
Every 6 correct answers (never after a failed word), a friendly full-screen card asks: “How tricky was that word? Hard / OK / Easy”. One tap and practice resumes instantly. These responses help SpellCrush learn which words need more attention.
Assessments
Private assessment (registered child)
From your child's card on the dashboard, tap Assessment. The test adapts in real time β it gets harder when your child answers correctly and easier when they struggle. At the end it recommends a grade level and comfort score.
Public assessment (no account needed)
Anyone can take a free 5-minute spelling assessment at spellcrush.fun/spelling-assessment. At the end, enter an email to receive the results. No account required.
Spelling Bee Generator
Generating a word list
Visit spellcrush.fun/spelling-bee-generator (no account needed). Pick a grade level (Kβ8), difficulty (1β10), optional phonics patterns, and word count (up to 100). Tap Generate to get a curated list with pronunciations, definitions, and example sentences.
Exporting to PDF
Tap Download PDF to get a print-ready document with all the words, IPA pronunciation, definitions, and example sentences β perfect for classroom or home spelling bee prep.
Saving to your account
If you're logged in, tap Save to My Lists to store the generated words as a custom word list. You can then assign it to a child for practice.
