Spell Slide plays the words from our grade and sight-word lists, free and with no sign-up.
A picture appears and the word is read aloud. Tap the picture to hear it again, with a sentence that uses it.
Tap or drag a tile next to the gap to slide it. Tap a tile further along the same row or column to slide the whole line.
Put the letters into the numbered boxes in order. Each box turns green when it holds the right letter.
Spell the whole word to win up to three stars. Every word solved becomes a sticker in the sticker book.
Five worlds of fifteen levels, from Sunny Farm's three-letter words on a 3×3 tray to Star Galaxy's giant words on a 5×5 tray. Each world ends with a Surprise word.
Play a whole list like a spelling test: ready-made lists for everyone, our grade and sight-word lists, or your child's own lists with Premium.
The real 15-puzzle with letters instead of numbers: put A to O in alphabet order, or try the little 3×3 and the giant 5×5 trays.
It plays like a puzzle, but the only way to solve a tray is to know how the word is spelled.
The boxes fill in reading order, like the tiles 1, 2, 3 of the classic puzzle. The child produces the whole spelling left to right, one letter at a time.
The spare tiles are chosen from letters children often mix up, such as b, d and p, or the vowels. Picking the right tile means knowing the spelling, not just spotting a letter.
Each correct letter is spoken as it lands, and at the end the word is spelled aloud while each tile lights up, then said in a sentence.
The light bulb shows the next tile to slide, and Peek shows the letters for a moment. Both cost a star, so the help is there without becoming the way to play.
No. There is no clock and no way to lose. Stars depend on how many moves the puzzle took and whether a hint was used, so a child who takes their time still finishes every level.
Ages 5 and up. The first world uses three-letter words on a small 3×3 tray, and its first two levels show an arrow on the tile to slide. Later worlds move to the classic 4×4 tray and longer words, and the last world has a 5×5 tray for words of eight to ten letters.
Not to start. Every word is spoken, and most come with a picture. A box turns green when it holds the right letter and that letter's name is spoken, so a beginning speller hears their progress as they go.
Yes. The Word Lists screen has ready-made lists (sight words, tricky words, colors, numbers and family words) for everyone, and any of our grade, year and sight-word lists can be played from its page. Playing your child's own saved lists is part of Premium.
Because the tiles can't just be dropped into place. To fill a box the child has to know which letter comes next and plan how to get it there, and the spare tiles carry letters children often mix up, such as b and d or c and k. The word is built in reading order, one box at a time.
It is free and runs in any modern browser on a phone, tablet or computer, with nothing to install. Stars and stickers are saved on the device, and a signed-in child also earns XP and streak days.
If Spell Slide is a hit, these three suit the same ages. All free, all in the browser.
