Fry's third hundred — words 201 to 300 in frequency order, usually taught across second and third grade.
The third hundred is the point where high-frequency word lists stop looking like sight words and start looking like vocabulary: important, country, mountain, example, family.
Almost all of them are decodable, so a third grader meeting them is not memorising shapes any more — they are building speed on words they could sound out if they had to.

How to Teach the Fry Third 100 Words
Treat this hundred as a spelling list rather than a flashcard deck. The reading is usually the easy part by now.
- Syllable division. im-por-tant, moun-tain, some-thing. Say it in parts, write it in parts.
- Meaning matters now. Several of these words are ones a child can read but cannot define. Ask.
- Two apostrophe words. don't and it's both appear here, and it's versus its is worth its own lesson.
- Fold into weekly spelling. Ten of these a week alongside the school list is enough to finish the hundred in a term.
Stop here for now. Fry's fourth through tenth hundreds exist, but past word 300 the frequency payoff drops sharply and ordinary vocabulary work is a better use of the time.
